RStudio Cloud | Inviting Co-instructors and Teaching Assistants | Instructor View
After creating a space, go to the Members area to manage its membership. You can add members to your space in three ways: To add members one by one, choose the Invitation Required option, and send invitations to each person you’d like to add to the space via the Add Member button. Note that for security reasons, the invitation is good for 7 days from the time that it is sent. To allow many people to join the space, choose the Sharing Link option, copy the sharing link and then share that link with all the people you’d like to join the space, either via an email or by posting the link on a web page. Keep in mind that anyone with that link will be able to join your space. If you would like to disable a link you previously shared, choose Reset Sharing Link; this will prevent any additional people from joining the space using that link. Space membership can also be managed programatically. See API Access from R in the Advanced Topics section below for details. Note that you can switch the access option at any time - a common approach is to initially set the access option to Sharing Link, post the sharing link, then after all the people you want to join the space initially have done so, switch access to Invitation Only. The original sharing link will no longer allow additional people to join the space, but you can add any new members individually. RStudio also produces RStudio Team, a modular platform of commercial software products that give organizations the confidence to adopt R, Python and other open-source data science software at scale, along with online services to make it easier to learn and use them over the web. Together, RStudio’s open-source software and commercial software form a virtuous cycle: the adoption of open-source data science software at scale in organizations creates demand for RStudio’s commercial software; and the revenue from commercial software, in turn, enables deeper investment in the open-source software that benefits everyone. Once we've created a workspace in RStudio Cloud, a great next step is to add any co-instructors and teaching assistants to the space to help us get everything set up. From within our workspace, we click on the Members tab at the top, where by default we see any current members already in the workspace. We can also click on Invitations to see the status of any pending invitations that we've sent.
When we click on the Add Member button, we see a pop-up asking us for the new member's email address, role, and any additional text we wish to include in the invite. One thing we need to think about here is what role we'd like to add our co-instructors and teaching assistants as.
Choosing a member role
Inviting someone as a moderator allows that person to access all of the projects within a workspace, whereas if we add them as an administrator, they will also have the ability to add and remove students, as well as change the workspace settings. Whatever we choose, we aren't locked into that option forever.
Whatever we choose, we aren't locked into that option forever.
Let's look here, where I've added myself as a member to our data visualization workspace. I can change my role by clicking on the drop-down menu and choosing an updated role for any member within the workspace.
Adding members in this way is great when we want to add workspace members one by one. Check out our Inviting Learners video for ways to add multiple members at once.
