Posit Cloud | Creating a Shared Space | Instructor View
A shared space is an area where a group of people can collaborate together - only the members of a shared space can access the space and its contents. To create a shared space, go to the navigation sidebar (click the menu icon at the upper left if needed) and choose New Space, then follow the on-screen instructions. ABOUT RSTUDIO CLOUD: RStudio Cloud is a lightweight, cloud-based solution that allows anyone to do, share, teach and learn data science online. Analyze your data using the RStudio IDE, directly from your browser. Share projects with your team, class, workshop or the world. Teach data science with R to your students or colleagues. Learn data science in an instructor-led environment or with interactive tutorials. There is nothing to configure and no dedicated hardware, installation or annual purchase contract required. Individual users, instructors and students only need a browser to do, share, teach and learn data science. We will always offer a free plan for casual, individual use, and we now offer paid premium plans for professionals, instructors, researchers, and organizations. RStudio also produces RStudio Team, a modular platform of commercial software products that give organizations the confidence to adopt R, Python and other open-source data science software at scale, along with online services to make it easier to learn and use them over the web. Together, RStudio’s open-source software and commercial software form a virtuous cycle: the adoption of open-source data science software at scale in organizations creates demand for RStudio’s commercial software; and the revenue from commercial software, in turn, enables deeper investment in the open-source software that benefits everyone. With your RStudio Cloud account, you'll have access to your own personal workspace, as well as the ability to create additional workspaces. As an educator, you might find it helpful to create a single workspace for each of your classes or workshops.
This creates a shared space for all of the learners within a class, allowing you to create and share assignments with your learners, as well as provide learners with a place to complete their coursework. What's more, you can view the work of your learners by going into their RStudio projects.
Creating a new workspace
Once we log in to RStudio Cloud, navigate to the menu on the left by clicking here. We can also choose to keep this menu open by clicking on this pin. Here we see my personal workspace, as well as a series of workspaces that I've created or joined.
We can create a new workspace by clicking on this New Space button and naming our new workspace. For the purposes of this example, I'll call our workspace Fall 2021 Data Visualization.
Managing the workspace
Once we're in the workspace for a course, we can create projects, add co-teachers and teaching assistants, as well as add learners and change access permissions. These are all topics covered in additional videos, and I encourage you to check out our RStudio Cloud playlist to learn more.
Thank you for watching. If you have any questions, or would like to ask a question, please post them in the chat box.
